  • there are these little things that make me feel grateful for living in a place like pichilemu. my teeth started hurting, and i was worrying. it’s been almost 2 years, a long way away from dr. laurie shepherd in montclair. dentist has been on my to do list for forever. i’m thinking: oh man, i bet i have a million cavities, MY TEETH ARE ROTTING, how much is this going to cost. and: damn it, i just cracked my head open. but this a.m., i called and got a same-day appointment with a dentist (!!) turns out his office is located four blocks away. we took x-rays, filled two tiny cavities, cleaned everything up and LISTO! it’s the simplicity of life down here that gets me. pichilemu keeps surprising me. it has everything i need, and usually just within biking distance?! i feel so grateful for it. i need to keep remembering how lucky i am. and dental hygiene, i gotta take my own advice, right @the_leve 127 2
  • big steps are being made over here(!!) the van is legal to drive! in february, i was given a criminal offense for driving, since the van was classified as a commercial vehicle. it was a huge bummer. plus, when i found out i am an illegal immigrant here in chile, i was feeling pretty down☹️. after reading up on legal loopholes, i figured out i could lower the classification to motor home. after a little bit of a hueveo🍳, we finally got the van classification lowered and the papers all ‘ticky-tacka’ as they say around here. my criminal offense got dropped since it was clear i wasn’t using the van to bring kids to school🤔next step: get a visa, so that i am no longer a legal immigrant/ cri criminal. thanks @dubekid for emotional support 128 3
  • the waves were maybe 3 feet on the sets—tiny! but i managed to fall and do this🤔 at first, i thought i crashed into a rock. my friend paddled over to take a look, and then we got a second opinion. he pulled back my hair and al tiro: “tienes que ir al hospital.” we have determined that my surfboard fin cut open my head. v. proud of this one🖤 5 stitches and 7 centimeters. think it's better than my last one/photo no. 2? 78 5
  • late last night, chapter 4 of even expats get the blues descended into our astral plane.👽 as an expat, you are (likely) in another part of the world by choice. so there are days when you question that choice. in this one, i talk about not having a “real” job, and also my failures with chilean men. this picture serves as evidence that the last thing in the podcast really happened. 90 4

  • ever since working through the entire catalogue of this american life while driving down along the pan-american highway, i’ve been drawn to radio as a medium to tell stories. it’s really hard to make stories that are as visual or as captivating, but i’ve been enjoying the challenge of a new format. my goal is to tell the story of people who use relocation as a tool to pursue their creative work. but in this episode, i introduce myself as your host. i attempt to answer the age-old question david byrne proposed—how did i get here?🤔🌀 86 11
